Voting for your new Management Collective

Hello all!

Thanks to all those who attended the AGM. Those who couldn’t make it, or chose to abstain, can still vote. Voting will close on Sunday the 27-11-11 at 5:00pm.

Please find below some blurbs about each of the candidates.

At the AGM, Madeline (our current president who is not running for nomination next year) was elected to run the election of the new board. Please send your votes along with your membership number to loveisrude@yahoo.com.au.

Not including myself (an ex-oficio member, i.e., not voted upon), there are 9 nominees and 8 positions. This means your vote should take the form of 8 names corresponding to the candidates you would like to be on the new board. As you may know, it is essential for the Management Collective to have an undergraduate elected to an office bearing position in order to maintain our affiliation with the ANU.

Happy voting!

-Joe

Nominees for board

Treasurer    Deb Cleland joined the MC in 2009 as alternate Treasurer, after volunteering as bookkeeper from 2006. She is a PhD student in Human Ecology at the ANU’s Fenner School of Environment and Society. Deb has 10 years experience in bookkeeping and financial management in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. A native Canberran, she is passionate about the co-op, its community and all it represents for healthy, sustainable and sociable shopping and eating.
General Member    Amber Shuhyta joined the MC in mid 2011 having enjoyed the Food Coop shopping experience since moving to canberra in 2008. Amber is a Psychologist and currently works as a manager in the ACT Health Directorate Adult & Older Persons Community Mental Health Service. Previously from Sydney, she was a manager for a small community organisation for homeless women and ran her own private therapy practice. Amber has a passion for providing wholesome vegan foods and environmentally friendly living for her young growing family.

General Member   Emily Chapman-Searle joined the Food Co-op MC late 2011. Her earliest memory of the co-op is ‘helping’ her grandparents when they volunteered at the co-op before she started primary school. Emily studied geography and human ecology at ANU and currently works as an environmental consultant. She was attracted to join the MC after volunteering for O-week for being involved a bit peripherally, but wanting to learn more and support the co-op in its work. Emily is particularly interested in facilitation, good process, communication, community. She is also a keen cook, very amateur gardener and bike riding enthusiast.

General Member    Charlie Wayment is an ANU Undergrad studying Sustainability. He has been a member of the coop since 2010. From early 2011 onwards he has helped organise and run Lunches at the food coop as well as Acoustic Soup. He wants to join the MC to help the managers and the cooperative more broadly in growing and becoming more connected in the community. He has experience in ordering, finances, internet work, cooking and organisational management.
General Member    Sasha Hunt is an ANU Undergrad also studying Sustainability. Sasha has been a member of the coop since 2010. Along with Charlie, Charlie and Kai, Sasha has helped run Lunches and Acoustic Soup. Sasha wants to join the MC in order to see the cooperative become more successful, especially through engaging younger people/students. Sasha has experience in volunteer management, organisational management, cooking and organising events/projects
General Member    Michael Wilson has been a coop member for 8 years and on the board for the last few years. He is an ecologist with the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, previously an academic and permaculture designer and teacher. He is on the Science Advisory Board for the Mulloon Institute and has a keen interest in local sustainable agriculture. His bees, chickens and garden keep him sane.
President    Kai Kamanda-Laws is studying an undergraduate degree majoring in human ecology, applied linguistics and natural resource management. She’s passionate about community and the environment and thinks the co-op is the place where these two interests meet. Kai has experience in the organisation of a range of  events, festivals, collectives and business; ranging from volunteer coordination, fundraising, administration and management roles. She was a co-founder of the lunch service, and is also a representative of the Students Association, Enviro Collective and ReconciliACT. She hopes to further develop strong links between the co-op and student and wider community so that it can be a hub of conversation, activism, creativity and learning, and all-in-all a great place to meet like-minded folk!
Secretary    Shannon McCallum  has been a coordinator at the co-op for a year. She is actively invovled in many community organisations and has a passion for volunteer work, often coming in to help out at the co-op just for the fun of it! She is a highly motivated undergraduate student at the ANU.
General Member    Adrian Gibbs has been a member and co-ordinator at the food Co-op since 1997. A member of the MC for the past two years, he has been involved in numerous community organisations, including ACT Shelter and Community Radio 2XX FM. Principal amongst his desires for the co-op is the building of a stable and sustainable organisation, particularly as a alternative food outlet, that appeals and welcomes people from throughout Canberra and the surrounding region.
