There are lots of ways you can get involved with the Food Co-op !
Join the Food Co-op as a member. As a co-operative the Food Co-op is owned and run by members. As a member, each hour you volunteer gives you a 15% discount for two weeks at the Food Co-op. We are always looking for volunteers to help us out with things in the shop (such as putting away orders, cleaning and tidying, lunch preparation and service). The Management Collective (MC) is made up of members and meets once a month to oversee the Food Co-op. All members are welcome.
The Cooperative provides a supportive work experience opportunity that enables students to develop skills and confidence to seek paid employment to support them through their studies. They can gain customer service skills, a variety of retail skills including stock ordering, knowledge of food safety and hygiene, and so on.
Check out the pages in the Get Involved section for more information about volunteering, becoming a member or coming along to a MC meeting. Or email: email@example.com
Everyone is welcome to shop at the Co-op, but there are benefits to being a member.
Members receive a two week discount of 15% for every hour they volunteer and as a member, you are also able to request bulk orders, from which you will receive an additional 10% discount.
Cost of membership: $50, or $35 concession rate

If you’d like to become a member, ask the volunteer at the counter when you are in store. New members receive a 15% discount on their first shop at the Co-op, as well as a FREE lunch or coffee from our cafe. Membership is individual, lasts for 12 months, and is available at a standard or a concession rate.
Additional member benefits include:
- Lunch and event discounts
- Rights to sell organic or homegrown/handmade produce on consignment
- Be part of a healthy, interactive, ethical, environmentally conscious, and community focused organization
Members own the Co-op, share the benefits of it and have the opportunity to work in it. The Co-op is managed with consensus-based decision making and all members are invited to participate. The Co-op employs two part time managers. Members act as volunteer co-ordinators staffing the store, and perform the other tasks required to keep the Co-op operating.
The MC of The Food Co-op Shop provides governance, strategic planning and financial oversight for the Co-op. It consists of Co-op members who have a diverse range of skills and backgrounds. MC members are elected to best represent the interests of the broader Co-op membership.
The MC meets monthly and members are welcome to join these meetings to participate in discussion and raise matters for consideration by the MC. If you have questions for the MC or you would like to add items to the agenda, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
