Veg Boxes

What’s a Veg Box?

A Veg Box is pre-ordered box of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables at a set price.

How much does it cost?

We have two sizes available: a $25 box (for 1-2 people) and a $50 box (for 3+). The standard membership discounts apply for nonworking members (5%) and volunteers (20%).

What will I get in the Veg Box?

An enjoyable range of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables. We provide easy-to-use veg such as onions, potatoes, carrots, apples, oranges, lettuce, avocado etc. When we get something special and exciting, we'll throw those in too! You're welcome to make requests for inclusions or exclusions of particular items in your Veg Box.

How does it work?

Boxes are pre-ordered so we know exactly how much to order and pack. Boxes are ready on Wednesday mornings (10am) and throughout normal trading hours. Boxes are packed by volunteers from 4-6pm on Tuesdays. For the box to be ready on Wednesday, please order by 12pm on Monday.

I'm not a member. Can I still order a box?

We encourage Co-op memberships so that people can have full participation, choice and low prices for their food purchases. That being said, boxes are available for everyone.

How do I order and pay?

Talk to a coordinator or manager. Your name, details and box size will be placed on a list. When you pick up your box you can pre-pay and order again. For the box to be ready on Wednesday, please order by 12pm on Monday. For repeat Veg Box customers, send an email to food.coop.fresh@gmail.com.

  1. Hi
I am looking to buy raw Australian peanuts in bulk and also wholemeal spelt flour.
    Do you have these

    1. Hi Nora, get in touch when the Co-op’s in it’s new location or get in quick before we move! The Co-op stocks bulk peanuts, Australian where possible, and wholemeal spelt flout.

  2. I see that you have a list of cleaning products, including those for washing clothes. I’d appreciate it if you would please tell me what you have and the cost. Thanks very much. All the best.

    1. Hi Jacquie,

We have a few brands and types of clothes washing products. We carry locally made Naturally Clean Snow which is a powder that sells for $7.90/kg. We also carry a few liquid products. Please come in and check them out.

  3. Hi, I have noticed that you sell products for the face and body. I am particularly interested in soaps and body lotions. Are these products organic as well?

    1. Hi, we are selling some body wash without chemicals with some certified organic ingredients. We also have some organic shampoos and conditioners. Finally, we sell some soaps that are certified organic made in Canberra without palm oil.

  4. I am so excited about this store. I am in the process of applying for a permanent resident visa for Canberra and this shop sounds absolutely super. The bonus with volunteering my time will be meeting other people let alone the discount.

    1. Hi Nic, if you mean raw cow’s milk, the Co-op doesn’t stock it at the moment. I understand the problem is that there are no nearby producers, and there are problems maintaining a chilled supply chain from producers interstate. As Nature Intended at Belconnen markets has stocked Cleopatra’s Bath Milk from Gympie in Queensland in the past, but I’m not sure if they still do. NB – it needs to be labelled “bath milk”, “pet milk” or for animal feeding only to satisfy laws which require milk for human consumption to be pasteurised. For some reason, goat milk may be legally sold unpasteurised and is available from Choko Bai Jo and other locations. Good luck, Zoe

    1. Hi Sue, we sell unbleached spelt flour in bulk, so if you bring your own bags or containers you will be able to buy as much as you like.

      Cheers, Zoe

  5. Hi
I’m looking for somewhere to purchase organic fruit and veg. How much of your product range is organic?
Do you have organic fruit and veg boxes as well?

  6. Hi there

    Do you stock the following?

    all purpose gluten-free flour
    vegan butter
    tapioca starch
    xantham gum
    sorghum flour
    quinoa flakes

    1. Hi Alexandra, the co-op has a large range of unpackaged gluten free items. We don’t presently have in stock Nuttelex or something similar, and I don’t think we have xanthan gum, but most of the other products you’ve inquired about will be in stock. The best approach is to come in and have a look, there’s an extensive range of grains and flours and because the Co-op has a higher sales volume than many places selling these products, you’ll find they are super-fresh.

    1. Hi Kimberly, do you mean nixtamalised flour, eg for making tortillas (which we don’t stock at the moment, AFAIK it’s not available wholesale/in bulk in Australia) or cornmeal/polenta made from white maize?

      1. The type of maize flour I’m looking for is the cornmeal type that’s used in Africa.

    1. Hi Kerry,

We do! Unfortunately I’m not at the shop right now so I can’t tell you the price.

      Hope that helps!

  7. Hi Joe, is powdered brewer’s yeast the same as nutritional yeast? (yellow flakes, looks kind of like sawdust 😛 ) Also, how much and what size is your coconut oil?

    1. Hi Sarah,

Its not the same unfortunately! I have been looking into a bulk supplier of nutritional yeast but haven’t found one yet.

Our coconut oil is in a 20 L barrel and is $33.40 / Kg.

      All the best,

  8. Hello, congratulations on the new premises. Do you sell Japanese umeboshi salted plums?

  9. Hi there,
Do you sell organic or locally processed meat? E.g. Steak, sausages, etc.

  10. Hi Maria,
not at the moment but if there is enough demand we would certainly consider it.

  11. Hi
I have got a couple of questions regarding bulk buy. Is there a particular minimal amount that need to be bought, and if so what is it? Does need pre order in advance? Does bulk buy apply to all products or just some? How is discount calculated – on top of 20% volunteer or on top of 10% member only?

we were thinking of buying things we know we consume a lot of in bulk which eould akso save us extra trips to to shopping. Things like: bag of potatoes, box of apples, kgs if juicing carrots, bunches of spinach/kale/greens, kgs of spelt flour, quinoa, canned tomatoes and chickpeas etc

    Thank you

    1. Hi Lydia, thanks for your question. Here’s the deal:

Bulk discount applies to packaged produce only, ie not fresh fruit, veg, dairy or soy products for example. Bulk discount applies when you buy a unit of the product in the size the Co-op purchases it, eg a case of canned tomatoes, a case of bottles of juice, a 25 kilo bag of flour.

You’re welcome to buy what’s in stock, but may need to pre-order some items. If you’re considering a bulk purchase of a number of items, please give the Co-op a call on (02) 6230 7505

There is no automatic discount when you become a member anymore. The discount works as follows:

      Membership = no discount
      Membership Bulk Buy = 10%
      Active membership = 20%
Bulk buy active membership = 20% + then another 10%.

      Hope that helps,

  12. Hi, I’m wondering if you stock contry valley milk products, particularly the 2L cream, or if you are able to do special orders of it.

  13. Hi Catherine, the Co-op does stock Country Valley organic milk and also cream. We’re not currently stocking the 2L cream. Please give the Co-op a call on 6230 7505 to have a chat with one of the managers about a special order.

    1. Hi Deb,
we don’t currently stock Corn Bran but we do have plenty of other gluten free options including Rice Bran, Besan Flour, Buckwheat Flour and many more!

  14. Do you have cold-pressed sunflower oil and/or cold-pressed raw sesame oil on tap? How much are they please.

    1. Hi Duffiana,
yes! We have Spiral organic sunflower ($17.45/L) and organic sesame oil ($21/L) on tap. Not sure if its cold-pressed but they taste pretty awesome – come down some time and check them out!

    1. Hi Kim,
sorry we don’t sell either of those (but we sell many others). Please come in and talk to us if you think you should…

  15. Kim, You obviously want to make injera – fantastic! You can buy sourghum flour at the African shop in Mawson.

    1. Hi Duffiana – yes I want to make injera, totally love Ethiopian food! Thanks for the tip, if I’m down south I will have to check that place out!

    1. Hi Neha,
we only stock have wheat bran, oat bran and rice bran unfortunately. Buying stuff from us is easy however – you just come in and give us some money!

    1. Hi Sharon,
unfortunately we don’t sell B grade maple syrup but we do sell “curl your toes” 100% organic maple syrup in bulk from Canada at $44.50/L.

  16. Hi I am looking to buy collard green, leafy green cabbage-like vegetable. Suppose to be good for acne sufferers.
    Do you sell it?

    1. Hi there, we don’t regularly sell collard greens, but if you are interested in placing an order, we can see if they are available and order some in next week. – Emily

  17. Hi there,

The link to your pricing details is dead – could you let me know what the pricing is for buying wheat flour in bulk, and if this has to be arranged in advance?

    Thank you

    1. Hi Steph,
yes we are currently working on a new pricing page that will have up to date details. Unfortunately I don’t think this will be finished until at least July or August. In the meantime you are welcome to come into the shop and browse the flours we have availiable. If you are a member we can offer possibly offer a 10% discount on bulk purchases.

    1. Hi Barbara,
currently we do not stock a cous-cous made from corn. We do however sell maize flour and maize meal if that helps 🙂

  18. Hi there,

Could you please let me know whether you stock any almond spread/butter or any other nut butter? And their prices please?

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi Charlene,

      We stock:

Almond, Brazil, & Cashew Nut Spread $10.80/250g
      Organic Sunflower Seed Spread $9.30/375g
Organic, Stoneground Crunchy Peanut Butter $9.80/375g
      Organic Brazil Nut Butter $10.50/175g

I hope this helps. We may be able to source other products for you if you are able (and/or interested) to buy in bulk.

    1. Hi Kim,
We do stock bulk Spelt grain. It is organic, Australian, and costs $10.40/kilogram. I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

    1. Hi B,

We do stock dried soy beans in bulk, but we do not stock fresh or frozen edamame in the pod. We may stock fresh edamame while they are in season if any of our producers have them available. I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    1. Hi Bella,

Sorry, we don’t have Borax and castile soap. We do have some really nice coconut based and olive oil based Australian made soap bars and a couple of varieties of liquid body wash.

  19. Hi Steve,

We don’t currently stock any type of bran as we did not have enough demand for it. However, if you’re a member you could make a bulk order. You would need to come into the shop to do this.

    1. Hey Frances,

We don’t usually have Seville oranges. If you want to get your hands on a few kilo’s we could look into doing a bulk order for you if they’re available through any of our suppliers. Email us at food.coop.shop@gmail.com if this might interest you.
