Fresh Food Boxes

What’s a vege box?

A vege box is pre-ordered box of seasonal fresh fruit and veges at a set price.

How much does it cost?

We will have two sizes available a $25 and a $50 box. The normal 15% discount will apply if you have done your volunteer hour.

What will I get in the vege box?

Seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables. We will only be stocking easy to use every day in season items such as onions, potatoes, carrots, apples, oranges, lettuce, avocado etc.

Why get a vege box?

Ordering a box will make it easier for you to shop at the coop as parking is no longer always readily available.

How does it work?

Boxes are pre-ordered and pre-paid so we know exactly how much to order and pack. Boxes will be available from Friday mornings (10am) and throughout normal trading hours. Boxes will be packed by volunteers from 4-6 on Thursdays. You can help out with box packing for your 15% discount. For the box to be ready on Friday, please order by 7pm on Tuesday.

My family/ friend would be interested in ordering a box but doesn’t want to become a member. Can they still order a box?

We encourage memberships so that people can have full participation, choice and low prices for their food purchases. That being said, boxes will be available for everyone.

How do I order and pay?

Talk to a co-ordinator or manager. Your name, details and box size will be placed on a list. When you pick up your box you can pre-pay and order again. For the box to be ready on Friday, please order by 7pm on Tuesday.

  1. I’m really interested in getting a small fruit and veggie box regularly! I was just curious to know the size and components of a typical box (I know it’s probably never ‘typical’ though!) Is the small box a good size for one person? And do I pay in advance for the whole season or just each time I want one?
    Cheers 🙂

    1. Hi again Sarah,

They are generally filled with whats in season. At the moment fruit incldues apples, grapefruits, bananas (still in season up north), while the veggies include things like broccoli, cabbage, potato, musrooms and garlic. We generally recommend that a $25 box is a good size for one person for the week.

      Hope that helps!

  2. Hi,
    (i) Would it b possible to choose from an available list of veg box groceries (including veggies, fruits and herbs) while pre-ordering,
(ii) Is all the produce in the veg box guaranteed organic,
(iii) I find it difficult to carry heavy things; what’s the weight of a typical box?

    1. Hi Carole,

All of the fruits & vegetables we sell in the Food Co-op Shop are certified organic and Australian. The only exception to this is when we accept produce from small local farmers or home gardeners who are not always organic certified. In these cases, they always have chemical free produce and many, if not all, of them go well beyond the sustainable practices needed to become certified organic. They simply do not have the resources to gain organic certification, which is an expensive and time consuming process. When it comes to fruits & vegetables, you can be assured that the Food Co-op Shop only sells produce that is the best possible for the earth and our bodies. Hopefully this helps, but if you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you soon at the Food Co-op Shop & Cafe.
